A while back I had written up a post (Brazilian Portuguese only) explaining how I managed to get PyPanel running on my old Ubuntu Feisty Herd 3 installation. The reason for the write up was to explain about how I circunvented two issues that came up during the process of getting PyPanel to actually run. Anyhow, ever since I started writing up about OpenBox, more and more people tried to use PyPanel and seem to have gotten bitten by the same problems.
As the title says, Openbox 3.4.2 and ObConf 2.0.1 were just released. Due to some confusion from some people I’ve talked to, this new version is not yet available for Ubuntu or Debian via the repositories (i.e. apt-get, aptitude, or synaptic). For those running Ubuntu Feisty or Debian Etch, download the .deb files from the downloads page. You’ll also find packages for Slackware and Arch Linux. If you are however running Foresight Linux:
… keep yourself entertained and informed with the new editions of the magazines Full Circle (Ubuntu) and PCLinuxOS Magazine.
My own F.A.Q.
Jun 08, 2007
It is 04:18 EST and instead of being in bed, I’m in front of the computer. Due to a major sore throat, I’ve been struggling to sleep since 22:00 of last night… and so far the sore throat has shown no sign of retreat. Tired of laying awake in bed, I figured I’d do something else… Since it is my birthday today, and I’m still sleep deprived, I came up with the “great idea” of writing my own F.
After talking to a few other guys about Openbox and what other applications one can use to get the best experience from a blazing fast windows manager, I remembered the other two programs I use to keep myself organized, both at home and at work: Dates and Tasks. Tasks is basically a ToDo list that allows me to easily and quickly keep track of my weekly tasks, prioritizing each item as I see fit.

Jun 05, 2007
It is finally here!!! Openbox 3.4 was just released, together with a fresh version of ObConf 2.0!!! I believe this is the first time I’ve avidly followed the development and release of an application, and I’m very proud of the work the entire Openbox Crew has put together! Read the official announcement here. Packages and source code can be found here. If you’re running Foresight Linux, you can get the new versions by running:
New kids on the block
Jun 04, 2007
Well, not those kids anyway… :) I just packaged a couple of new applications today to see if I could augment my Openbox experience. Well, one of them was more out of curiosity. ;) The first one was Nitrogen, “a background browser and setter for X windows.” It is fairly light with a very clean interface. Sure I can set my wallpaper via the command line, but the preview thumbnails are very helpful!
