This April 22-23 I will be once again “on the road” to represent Ubuntu Linux at this year’s Trenton Computer Festival. Having just got back from Linux World Expo in Boston, this shouldn’t be too intimidating for me. I must confess, it was pretty intimidating to face literally hundreds of people and provide them with satisfactory answers. I feel a bit more “seasoned” now and should be able to feel more confortable now.

Nos dias 23 e 24 de abril vou estar mais uma vez “na estrada”, desta vez representando o Ubuntu no Trenton Conputer Festival. Tudo bem que Trenton não fica tão longe quanto Boston, mas baseado no GoogleMaps, são mais ou menos 65.8 milhas de onde moro! Acho que agora já me sinto um pouco mais àvontade conversando com centenas de pessoas, tentando responder da melhor forma possível perguntas relacionadas ao Ubuntu e software livre.

Com o lançamento da nova versão (**1.0-8756)**do driver da Nvidia, agora meu computador está pronto para testar alguns do jogos mencionados no Ubuntu Games! Claro que não vai poder faltar o Enemy Teritory (ô vício!)! Passei muito tempo lutando com meu xorg.conf para fazer o driver proprietario do Nvidia funcionar, mas nem mesmo as mandingas cibernéticas do “pai” Fábio tinham dado resultado! Quem sabe não pedimos para o nosso amigo Meyer montar um servidor com o Enemy Territory (com senha para manter os panguás de fora) e fazemos um FragFest antes das traduções do fim de semana?

Lembra daqueles planos infalíveis do Cebolinha e Cascão para derrotar a “dentuça e golducha” da Mônica nas estorinhas do Maurício de Sousa? Ele sempre criava uns nomes super bem bolados para estes planos (e sempre acabava apanhando no final do gibi)… Bem, é exatamente inspirado neste “planos infalíveis” que venho anunciar… Projeto Tradução Oficial Brasileira do Ubuntu: Não Importa Tua Origem, ou T.O.B.U.N.I.T.O. (com sotaque nordestino, um pouquinho de farinha e muito jerimun cun jabá!

Fui “entrevistado” pelo pessoal do Lulu TV no primeiro dia do Linux World Expo… Apesar do nome engraçado (O Mário disse que era um canal homosexual… hehehe), eles fizeram uma boa cobertura do evento e me permitiram falar sobre o Ubuntu por alguns segundos.

The third and last day at the exposition was without a doubt the best day of them all! There were times when I was completely surrounded by people who just wanted to chit-chat… but there were many chances to just walk around, talk to people, take a few extra pictures and not worry about leaving my helper alone in the booth. Some of the highlights in my oppinion were: The guys from Slashdot were playing XBox 360 all day long using the huge screen they had set up at their lounge area; They also brought in a freezer filled to the top with ice cream, which quickly vanished as they started distributing it together with other things such as t-shirts; I got to meet Komander Taco, the “brain"behind Slashdot; I got to meet Jon â€Å"Mad Dogâ€Â?

Well, sort of… I was “interviewed” by Lulu TV on the first day of Linux World Expo. Kind of funny to see someone else’s film of you bahbling about something… hehehe… Too bad I didn’t have a microfone in me.

O terceiro e último dia da exposição foi sem dúvida o melhor de todos os dias. Tiveram alguns momentos onde fiquei completamente cercado de pessoas querendo bater papo, mas também foram muitas as vezes que ficou super tranquilo… o suficiente para que eu pudesse deixar meu ajudante sozinho e dar uma saidinha para tirar mais fotos e bater papo. Algumas coisas interessantes que aconteceram: O pessoal do Slashdot ficou jogando XBox 360 o dia todo na tela de mais de 90 polegadas que colocaram na sua área; Eles também trouxeram um freezer cheio de sorvete e saiu distribuindo para todo mundo, junto com camisetas e outros brindes; Conheci o Komander Taco, o cérebro por trás do sucesso do Slashdot; Conheci Jon “Mad Dog” Hall; Conheci Mitch Pirtle, um dos desenvolvidores principais do Joomla e o convenci de aparecer no meu Linux User Group no mês que vem.

Pretty easy day today compared to yesterday’s “feeding frenzy”! The other guy who is supposed to help me out these last 2 days didn’t show up until after 12 noon! Ended up taking a cab to the exposition center… about $20 later and some really crazy talk from the cab driver! Scary stuff as he went off on a dialogue with himself… Couldn’t wait to get the hell out of the cab!

Pheeeew! What an amazing day I had today! Got up really early and after grabbing a quick breakfast, drove down to South Boston to the Linux World Expo at the “new convention center” as it is called around here. Together with my buddy Vinny, we quickly set things up and got it all started by playing some Swing music… the Fedora guys appreciated it! ;) Shortly after people started to come in… at first as a slow trickle with a handfull of people stopping by to thank us (in behalf of the Ubuntu community) for the great work we’ve done and to grab a free copy of the 600 CDs I brought in with me… and then, as a stream ravaging stream!
