Very cool news from the land of the Epiphany web browser this morning. Their decision to go with WebKit plus the synchronization with GNOME’s release cycle should appeal to a lot of new developers and contributors! If we could finally get Firebug for Epiphany (this GSoC idea needs a mentor!!!) I could stop using two different browsers. :)

Na semana passada eu tinha escrito no meu blog em Inglês sobre minha tentativa frustrada em migrar o meu projeto BillReminder para o Google Code. Bem, graças a algumas boas almas da Google, eu finalmente consegui migrar o projeto! Eu realmente tinha a expectativa de um processo completo e tranquilo mas (felizmente?) existem vários passos manuais que você deve efetuar antes de ter a mesma estrutura (hmmm… não igual, mas algo útil) da SourceForge.

For more than 4 years I had been a happy customer of phpwebhosting.com. That was until last year when my domain (shared) and the entire server went down for no apparent reason! My emails were completely ignored and to this day I don’t know what really happened. This morning was the last straw for me. I have already signed a contract with dreamhost and will be migrating my two blogs in the next few days.

O codinome deste lançamento é uma brincadeira em Inglês. As unidades para milhão, bilhão, etc são million, billion… então a pergunta é: Se um milhão é million and um bilhão é billion, quanto é um Brazilian? :) Este foi um pequeno lançamento onde alguns erros foram arrumados e algumas melhorias na parte gráfica para melhorar o workflow. Vale a pena mencionar as novas traduções para o Francês e Holandês, cortesia de Robert-André Mauchin e Daniel van Eeden, e o trabalho na interface gráfica feito pelo nosso hacker Brasileiro Laudeci Oliveira.

For the last 2 weeks I have (unsuccesfully) tried to migrate BillReminder from SourceForge to Google Code project hosting. I have filled out the web form to register a new project on Google Code, but since this project already exists in SourceForge, I have to go through an extra step where a message should be sent to the project lead (which happens to be me) requesting approval for this migration. The problem is that I always get a 500 page when I click on the submit button!

This is a minor release where a couple of bugs have been closed and some UI work was done to improve the workflow. It is worth to mention the new French translation, courtesy of Robert-André Mauchin, updated Dutch translation, courtesy of Daniel van Eeden, and some UI work done by Laudeci Oliveira. Changelog: #1906715 - New records can now be created by double-clicking a date in the main calendar. The due date for this new record will be set to the date selected upon double-clicking.

So I submitted my idea for GNOME’s Summer of Code this year… aaaaaand, it doesn’t seem to be very popular as it is currently categorized as “Underground Ideas”. :) Titled “Enhance Damned Lies and integrate it with open-tran.eu”, it basically tries to lure someone with time to add a little bit of pizzaz to a site that I regularly use in order to proceed with my translations. Now, no offense intended but how can something like “Individual Workspace Wallpapers" be considered as "Rockstar Ideas" compared to the benefits of improving the work flow of those who deliver a GNOME Desktop completely translated every single release cycle?

Querida lazyweb, existe alguma forma de limitar o número de fileiras exibidas em um gtk.ComboBox? Eu sei que eu posso usar a propriedade set_wrap_width property para dividir os itens em várias colunas, mas eu acho isso tão “feio”. :)

Dear lazyweb, is there a way to limit the number of rows displayed by a gtk.ComboBox? I know one can set the set_wrap_width property to spread out the items into multiple columns, but that is just so ugly. :)

Hoje é um dia muito especial para todos aqueles envolvidos com o lançamento de mais uma versão do GNOME, versão 2.22. Também marca o lançamento de mais uma versão do Foresight Linux, versão 2, mantendo a tradição de sempre lançar uma nova versão junto com o GNOME! Um monte de 2! :) Eu quero parabenizar todo mundo que colaborou pelos últimos 6 meses, especialmente a equipe Brasileira de tradutores, que mais uma vez entregou um ambiente de GNOME 100% traduzido, e a galera do Foresight por entregarem uma excelente combinação de tecnologia de ponta (PulseAudio, PackageKit, Syslinux)!
