War
Feb 09, 2006
I’ve been following with extreme interest (and caution) the discussion that has been developing about the many metamorphosis the Gnome desktop has undergone for sake of “simplicity.” Now, I have always been outspoken about the subject of application usability. I have had a few discussions about some of the changes done to the newer version of Galeon, where certain features were removed for the sake of “moms and dads” users… One day you’re happily using a program that you feel confortable with and attends your every need… and then, after an “upgrade” you find out (the hard way) that some features are completely “missing” from action.
Still pulsing

Gandalf, my Pentium 4 that has seen more OSes than any other computer I’ve ever had, had apparently commited suicide this last weekend. Everything led me to believe it was an OD of electricity, as my building has experienced some un-explained power surges these last few weeks. Even though both Gandlaf and Houdini were plugged to a power surge protector, Gandalf stopped emmiting any signals and by Monday evening was pronounced dead… or so I thought.
if someone were to take a peek at the books I’ve been reading lately, he/she/it could assume the following: I like to read about history; I’m trying to learn to program in Python (was influenced by lucasds); I keep some reference material for those moments when Google is not enough;
Prioritizing Ubuntu

Continuing with my new year’s resolution of working harder at the translation and bug triage of Ubuntu Linux, I have finally removed Windows XP from one of my PCs (the only one then running something other than Linux) and installed Dapper Drake. …and as the saying goes, “a picture is worth 1,000 words,” you can see below how I have prioritized Ubuntu in my professional life: Ubuntu Dapper (x86) running on a Pentium 4 (lower left side); Ubuntu Breezy (x86_64) running on an AMD 64 (lower right side); Ubuntu Breezy (x86) running on my Laptop (IBM X40) (table top to the left); Coffee mug (the biggie size me version) with Ubuntu logo (Thanks Toadman!
The system works!
