Arrived at Chapel Hill, NC early this morning and drove around the Duke West Campus to find out where I have to be tomorrow for my interview. The flight was great and the wi-fi hotspot at the airport (JFK) allowed me to get things done while waiting for my flight. Tried to subscribe to the University of North Carolina Linux User Group (UNCLUG) to see if we could get together or something but had my request rejected for not using a @unc.

Estou aqui no aeroporto JFK em New York, esperando por meu vôo para Durham, North Carolina. Me fizeram andar um bocado quando me avisaram que o vôo sairia de um outro portão, mas tudo bem. Pelo menos o wi-fi hotspot do terminal funciona muito bem! ;) Pensei em passar aqui e deixar algumas “tarefas” para a equipe de tradutores e colaboradores. Primeiramente, o Rosetta tem passado por muitas modificações estes últimos dias.

Through all the confusion and difficulties my family and I have undergone these last 2 weeks, I’m happy to announce that a little bit of light has crept through the darkness of the tunnel. Yesterday I was interviewed for a programmer position within a company not too far from where I live.

Dei uma sumida desde o último post sobre o simpósio nas Nações Unidas. Não falei nada aqui sobre o que me aconteceu há duas semanas atrás, a não ser para os amigos mais íntimos. Acontece que meu contrato de trabalho expirou no dia 23 de agosto devido ao cancelamento de meu projeto. A notícia foi me passada pior forma possível: por email!!! Na noite do dia 22, depois da janta, fui checar meu email como de costume e recebi a notícia.

This is it folks, I’m quitting the rat race! After working my butt off for the last 2 years as a contractor, I got tired of the long commutes to/from work/home, missing my daughter grow into this almost five-year-old beautiful girl, not having enough time or energy to properly enjoy time with my family, and always being worried if my contract would be renewed. About 2 weeks ago I was informed my project had gotten canceled and with it, my position.

Semana passada houve uma boa discussão (por email na lista de discussão) sobre o processo de ingressão e critérios para a equipe de tradução brasileira do Ubuntu. Infelizmente, a informação contida na página oficial foi considerada incompleta no ponto de vista de alguns candidatos, o que causou muita confusão e transtorno às pessoas que infelizmente não foram aceitas este mês. Em nome da administração de nossa equipe, gostaria de pedir desculpas às pessoas afetadas por nossa falha, e espero poder contar com a sua participação e colaboração em nossos futuros objetivos.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to represent Ubuntu linux at a symposium held at the United Nations, organized by UNITAR. Together with another representative from Novel, I was invited to demonstrate our operating system and answer any question that may come up during the event. Together with my new friend Nathan Eckenrode whom I met approximately 3 weeks ago (he was one of those who answered my post about getting a free Ubuntu book.
